Long-standing Shambala Festival favourites, GRRRL are back with their brand-new 10-year anniversary show. When they performed in 2017, they were voted the favourite act of the entire festival, so there’s no doubt we’re in for a real treat.
For those new to GRRRL: they are a bespoke electronic music collaboration uniting independent, revolutionary women artists from around the world, telling powerful collective stories of life, conflict, inequality and change through music. They fuse dark techno, ghetto bass, hip hop, dancehall, reggae, soul and electronica into an explosive, politically charged live experience.
GRRRL is directed by Brazil’s Laima Leyton (Mixhell/Soulwax) and features an eclectic mix of influential artists including Brazilian dancehall queen Lei Di Dai; Zimbabwe’s rap powerhouse Awa Khiwe; British-Bangladeshi vocalist Sohini Alam; DJ and percussionist MABE from Caracas; and Manchester’s own pussy-power poet Oneda (Heavenly Recordings).
